They Did It Again!

On a day when both the Patriots and Celtics were playing, both teams stormed back from eight point deficits in the fourth quarter to come out with the win.

Entering the fourth quarter the Patriots were down 28-23 to the New York Giants, Tom Brady found Randy Moss for a 65-yard touchdown a play after Moss dropped an easy 50-yard pass. Laurence Maroney ran in the 2-point conversion to give the Patriots a 31-28 lead – a lead they would not give up for the rest of the game.

As much as Pats fans wanted to see Brady and Moss break the touchdown record last week at home it was actually better this week. In the last game of the season against Peyton Manning’s little brother, Brady tosses a bomb to Moss to break two records not one. Talk about adding insult to injury.

Contrary to the belief the touchdown was not the turning point of the game. The turning point of the game was when Ellis Hobbs intercepted an Eli Manning pass to the outside that surely looked like it was going out of bounds. But Hobbs skillfully kept his feet inbounds and halled in the I-N-T. The Patriots would go on to score the record breaking TD and break the hearts of the Giants.

After Hobbs's interception the Patriots had all the momentum it did not look promising for the Giants. If it was not for Rodney Harrison’s stupid Bart Scott impersonation the Giants were not going to score for the remainder of the game. Because of Harrison’s antics – giving New York new life with four minutes left – Bill Belichick yanked him out of the game without a flinch of an eye. Walking over to the bench you could see Harrison with his head firmly looking in the opposite direction of Belichick. He knew he screwed up and Belichick was giving him the death look.

But the Patriots pulled out the win like they always did this season. Eli Manning played well for the first half but just like his big brother, when he needed to step up at the end of the game he crumbled.

Gostkowski kicked three field goals for a total of 12 points while Moss and Maroney had all the touchdowns in the game. Maroney finished the game with 46 yards on 19 carries and two touchdown runs while Moss had six catches for a total of 100 yards 22 yards shy of Wes Welker's 122 yards on 11 catches. But Brady was the star of the game.

When the offensive line had a bad night Brady did not cave under the pressure the Giants defense was giving him. But when has Brady ever succumbed to pressure? He completed 32 of 42 passes for 356 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions. That means he finishes the season with single digit interceptions for the first time in his eight year career.

Now onto lighter things. Who gets the ball? Doug Mientkiewicz? Well after the game in Moss’s post-game press conference he addressed the issue. He said Brady and him discussed it with Moss telling Brady to keep it. Is this the same Randy Moss that was in Oakland and Minnesota? I do not recognize this man. I say give the ball to Jonathan Papelbon’s dog, it would bring 2007 to a complete end (pun intended).
