Boston v. New York Part I

With the Patriots heading to Super Bowl XLII, after their 21-12 victory over the San Diego Chargers, to face the New York football Giants it gives us the chance to look into that Boston-New York rivalry, again.

In Boston v. New York Part I we compare the two cities with trivial information. (i.e. Who has the better nickname, mayor, etc.?)

BOSTON

NEW YORK

Tom Menino

Mayor

Michael Bloomberg

At least Bloomberg doesn’t stumble over words… NEW YORK

“The Hub of the Universe,” “The City on a Hill,” “The Athens of America

Nickname

“The Capital of the World,” “The Big Apple,” “The City that never sleeps”

BOSTON…always one up on the competition from “world” to “universe”

Boston College

Northeastern University

Harvard University

Boston University

MIT

Higher Education

New York University

Columbia University

Fordham University

Juillard School of The Visual Arts

New York schools are good but Boston has Harvard…BOSTON takes this one

Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market

Main Attraction

Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island

DRAW…New Yorkers don’t go to the Ellis Island like Bostonians don’t go to Faneuil Hall

James “Whitey” Bulger

Famous Criminal

Son of Sam

Not a bright spot on Boston but as heinous as David Berkowitz was he is not listed behind Osama bin Laden on the FBI’s Most Wanted List….BOSTON

First Night

New Year’s Eve

Times Square

As great as being in New York might sound when the ball drops, Boston’s First Night celebration is much better… BOSTON

Boston Accent

Accent

New York Dialect

At least New Yorker don’t get made fun of when they leave New York….NEW YORK

Denis Leary, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Eliza Dushku, Casey Affleck, Ellen Pompeo

Actors/Actresses

Billy Crystal, Adam Sandler, Denzel Washington, Jennifer Lopez, Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Too many good actors and actresses… DRAW

Dane Cook

Comedians

Jerry Seinfeld

Even draw…with the young crowd it would go to BOSTON but the older crowd would go with NEW YORK

James Taylor, Aerosmith, New Kids on the Block, Dropkick Murphys, Staind

Musicians

50 cent, Alicia Keyes, Luther Vandross, LL Cool J, Christina Aguilera

Hip-Hop/Rap versus alternative and folk rock…take your pick…DRAW

Boston Legal, Boston, Public, Cheers

TV Shows

Seinfeld, Friends

How did a show about nothing catch on across the nation like it did? NEW YORK

The Departed, Mystic River, Good Will Hunting, The Perfect Storm, The Boondock Saints

Movies

Armageddon, Independence Day, Godzilla, Big Daddy, Little Nicky

Any movie with Adam Sandler loses credibility in my mind….BOSTON

John Adams, John Quincy Adams, John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy

Politicians

Rudy Giuliani, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt

JFK and FDR were both top presidents when they were in the Oval Office…Teddy Roosevelt is the reason we have environmental protection….DRAW
